The Dell Studio 15 laptop computer sports the Windows Vista operating system utilizing an x86 architecture 64-bit processor. Today seemed like a great day to acquire some voice recognition software. Unfortunately, the Nuance software corporation has functionally abandoned the 64-bit compatibility of the pervious version.
1. Just out of the box the Nuance – Dragon NaturallySpeaking Speech Recognition Software standard version 9 will not install on the 64-bit operating system.
2. After visiting the Nuance website, an updated downloadable version of the software required only a valid license code. The NaturallySpeaking Standard B download initialized, but would install on the Dell Studio 15 laptop computer.
3. The Nuance webpage support section allows a user with a valid version 9 key to download Dragon NaturallySpeaking Standard 9.5. Unfortunately, the current version does not support native 64-bit operating systems.
Voice recognition software would be fantastic. Maybe at some point an upgrade will be made available. The whole concept of having to purchase entirely new software for each version of software just seems ridiculous. Software companies probably should accept the reality of upgrades.
