Fedora (formerly known as Red Hat) Linux version 11 codename “Leonidas” has been officially released for public download. Prudence suggests waiting a few days for the download speeds to increase. Today the direct download of the Fedora-11-x86_64-DVD.iso will take about one hour. Now would be a good time to mention that Joni purchased a twelve pack of Mountain Dew game fuel citrus cherry flavored soda with World of Warcraft advertising on the cans. Mountain Dew game fuel contains about six milligrams of caffeine per fluid ounce or seventy two milligrams of caffeine per twelve ounce can. For example, a regular twelve ounce can of diet Coke contains about forty five milligrams of caffeine. Mountain Dew game fuel also contains a large amount of processed sugar. The Fedora 11 codename “Leonidas” Linux installation went flawlessly, but one of the SATA hard disk drive is failing from bad sectors. The computer build begins with a CODEGEN S-201 server case. The case holds one ATX motherboard and eleven 5.25-inch drives. In this case, the case stores a classic GIGABYTE GA-K8N Pro motherboard. The motherboard sports one AMD Athlon 64 processor, three gigabytes of DDR400 memory, and two onboard SATA interfaces. Western Digital built [...]

Earlier this mourning the Windows Vista operating system running on the Dell Studio 15 suddenly and unexpectedly crashed, yet again… Unfortunately, for Microsoft the Fedora Linux operating system running on the CODGEGEN S-201 has never crashed. Not only is the Fedora Linux operating system an open source project, but also Fedora is freely available for download. Microsoft should consider the competition between the two operating systems like a boxing match. Symbolically, a single computer crash represents getting knocked down during a round. A point will be subtracted from the mandatory ten point must system for each knockdown. Crashing and destroying a word processing document will automatically disqualify the offending operating system. Ring the bell Microsoft. Windows Vista started the boxing match down one point.

Nels has made the switch to Fedora 10.0 as a primary operating system. Being a first in the pool sort of adventurer, Nels utilizes complete immersion to learn about new technology. Nels has used a variety of other Linux flavors over the years. Unfortunately, Nels had never considered running one of the new versions of Fedora. Traditionally, Fedora has a strong relationship to previous incarnations of Red Hat Linux. Nels still has a collection of old school Red Hat installation compact discs sitting on the bookshelf. Given the daily duties of writing the first priority after Fedora installation involved selecting a method of word processing. After looking at Open Office, Nels started investigating alternatives. One alternative method of word processing involves transitioning to Google Docs Beta. Unfortunately, Google Gears does not work with the current build of Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.10 running on Fedora 10.0 x86_64. The lack of Google Gears means Google Docs Beta can only initialize with internet access. Working with Google Docs offline will be impossible. Downloading all of the documents to a local computer requires Google Gears offline access.

Tomorrow Nels will install the latest version of the Fedora Linux operating system. The operating system takes up most of a DVD. In this case, the operating system originated from the Fedora Project. A standard Qwest internet service allowed the download of the operating system. Individuals willing to pay for the service can purchase a digital subscriber line (DSL) from Qwest. Thanks to the nature of the internet connection, the download required about three hours. Burning the ISO to a DVD took about ten minutes. Overall, the actual instillation process will probably require about two hours. Nels has several hard drives working within the computer providing access to different operating systems. Nels enjoys trying out different operating systems. With luck, the installation of Fedora Linux 10.0 will be successful without any significant hardware complications. Nels previous used a legally obtained copy of Windows XP home edition. Windows 7 Beta simply lacked any awe inspiring qualities. Nels will not be diverting good taco money toward the purchase of the Windows 7 operating system. Nels will be changing the operating system on the CODEGEN server case series S-201 computer. Installation will involve loading the Fedora Linux operating system on a Western Digital [...]
