Some congratulations are in order for the retirement of a heavily used Samsung ML-1710 monochrome laser printer. Samsung started producing the ML-1710 monochrome laser printer around March 21, 2003. Nels acquired the printer sometime during 2004. The printer sports a reasonable 600 by 600 dots per inch resolution. Samsung believes the printer can manage seventeen pages per minute, but in practice, the printer has never delivered on that promise. Thanks to USB connectivity and a variety of software drivers, the printer functions across multiple operating systems. Samsung gave the printer a two hundred and fifty page sheet capacity, which significantly overloads the printed page storage capacity of the printer. Overall, the extremely compact printer design did contribute to a significantly concerning number of paper jams. Overtime, the printer also started randomly smearing toner across various parts of printed pages. Given the exceptionally large academic paper workload of the printer, none of the toner problems surprised anyone.
