Months after Toshiba abandoned the HD DVD project, people are engaging in over six thousand HD DVD auctions on eBay. The much maligned high definition content format continues to exist. People have seen a significant depreciation in the value of HD DVD related technology and content. Very few programs designed for individual DVD authoring can produce HD DVD content. Unless some third party company decides to produce new content, the secondary market for HD DVD content will eventually evaporate like a desert mirage. Personal computer technology is becoming increasingly bimodal. Consumers are demanding both high end systems and streamlined personal computers. If this bimodal computer technology trend continues, then half of all future personal computers will be incapable of displaying high definition content. The future of personal computer technology will be interesting given trends toward miniaturization.
